A joint Japanese-American cast will perform the legendary Broadway musical “RENT”!
Koji Yamamoto (OFFICAL FAN CLUB), Crystal Kay (Instagram: crystalkayofficial), and the cast of Broadway’s most successful musical, “RENT,” will perform in a joint Japan-U.S. production! The new “RENT” will be performed in English (with Japanese subtitles) in an original production by Michael Greif!
The Broadway musical “RENT” is a timeless masterpiece. The message of Jonathan Larson, who died suddenly on the eve of the opening night of “RENT” in 1996 and who wrote the lyrics and music for the script, continues to shine through the ages. Based on the opera “La Bohème,” “RENT” tells the story of a group of young people who are at the mercy of loneliness and the AIDS crisis but who live their lives with passion, friendship, and the belief that “NO DAY BUT TODAY” is the most critical moment of their lives. The heartrending songs, including “Seasons of Love,” gave people the courage and hope to live.
In the summer of 2024, “RENT,” which changed the history of musicals, will be reborn with a new cast from Japan and the United States! The role of Mark will be played by Koji Yamamoto, who played the role of Mark in the first performance of the Japanese version of “RENT” in 1998, for the first time in 26 years. Alex Boniello (Instagram: alexboniello), who recently appeared on Broadway in “Dear Evan Hansen” (as Conor Murphy), will play Roger. The role of Maureen, played by Idina Menzel (Instagram: idinamenzel) in the original version, will be played by Crystal Kay, who appeared in the Japanese version of the Broadway musical “Pippin” and won the Yomiuri Drama Award for Outstanding Actress.
Other cast members scheduled to come to Japan include Jordan Dobson, who has appeared in many Broadway productions, including “Haddie’s Town,” as Angel. This production will be performed entirely in English. Please look forward to seeing the new “RENT,” a Japan-U.S. co-production that will exceed your imagination!
