Jack meets Davey and his brother Les one day. Unlike the other “Newsies,” Davey and Les have a home and family. Still, they have just joined the “Newsies” because of their father’s unemployment. Jack decides to help them, thinking he can sell more newspapers with the help of the young Les. At the same time, Pulitzer, the owner of The World, is planning to raise the wholesale price of newspapers to “Newsies” while keeping the selling price unchanged to make more money than his competitors.
Jack, who is working with Davey and Les, is pursued by Snyder of the reformatory for past events—the three escape to Medda’s theater, where another great show is put on that day.
The following day, Jack learns that the wholesale price of 50 cents per 100 copies of the newspaper has risen to 60 cents, and he leads the “Newsies” on strike to protect their livelihood and rights. Catherine, a newspaper reporter, is moved by Jack’s actions and decides to follow and cover the strike.
Will the mighty Pulitzer or the young “Newsies” win? What awaits the boys living their lives to the fullest, and what awaits them in the future?
